Orientation

Welcome to Romae.org , the online presence for all things Latin.

In order for you to fully maximize this site and its features, we want to take a second and become oriented with the site and its layout.

To begin with, you are currently on the main site of Romae.org . This area is the main hub, which will have links for Latin sites and other sources of Roman culture and literature. There will also be news and announcements for upcoming events as well as a virtual textbook feature, containing all sorts of information for guiding you in your studies of the Latin language. In other words, this is the more passive area of the site – where you can hunt for information. We do have, however, other sections of the site that will allow for you to be more interactive.

If you want to become an integral part of Romae.org, there are several ways to do it: like we said, there are both passive and active sections to this site. Some sections you will simply read the content, other sections you will help to create it.

The Forum

Want to chat in Latin? Get help for any of your Latin queries and clear up any confusion? Here’s your chance. At the Forum you will be able to not only join in on discussions held in Latin, to brush up on your Latin composition, but also you can ask for help with any Latin problems you may be having. Don’t understand a particular passage or why that word is in the ablative case? Or perhaps you can’t seem to get the passive periphrastic? Don’t fret, ask for help in our appropriately titled Help! Forum. Or just start a discussion of your own.

The Schola

Perhaps you have had enough playing around with Latin or various textbooks and self-help books haven’t been able to help you – the Schola is for you. This is our virtual academy of Latin which has courses available for your enrollment that can instruct you at every level of Latin.

Are you a newcomer to the field? We have a course for you that will give you the basics and get you on your way.

An experienced student who needs some fine-tuning? We have courses that will help you sharpen your skills and allow for you to continue your development. Join us.

The Blog

Featuring our latest tips and tricks for the study and mastery of Latin as well as some other pertinent information in the field. Anything from grammar and syntactical issues to the latest archaeological finds can be found here. Also, stay tuned for original writings and reviews of books and products that can give you the edge on developing your Latin skills. Lege.

Please remember, if you do sign up for each section of the site, you will need to create a username and password to log in at each section. It is recommended that you use the same screenname at each part in order to maintain consistency – but the most obvious reason is to gain stature in the community here at Romae.org.

Stay tuned for our wiki – this section will allow for our members to write and edit their favorite parts of Roman history with just a few clicks!
